Is a breast cyst a precancerous lesion?

Breast cysts are not usually precancerous lesions, but long-term neglect of breast health may increase potential risks.

Breast cysts are a common benign breast disease, which is mainly manifested by the formation of small fluid-filled cysts in the breast. It is more common in women between 30 and 50 years old, and is caused by fluctuations in hormone levels, breast gland hyperplasia or secretion disorders. In most cases, breast cysts will not turn into cancer, but some complex cysts or those with other breast abnormalities need to be vigilant.

If a breast cyst is painful to touch or fluctuates with your menstrual cycle, it is usually benign. Some small cysts may even resorb on their own without any additional intervention. However, if the cyst increases rapidly, is irregular in shape, or is accompanied by abnormal nipple discharge, further testing, such as a breast ultrasound or a biopsy, may be needed to rule out the possibility of a malignant lesion.

The key to maintaining breast health is regular breast screening, especially for women with a family history of breast disease. If you find a lump in your breast during self-examination, you should seek medical attention in time to avoid panic and misjudgment. Adjusting your work and rest schedule, consuming less high-fat foods, and reducing stress can all help maintain breast health.
