How to tell if you have an anal abscess

Perianal abscess usually presents with symptoms such as swelling and pain around the anus, and may be accompanied by fever or increased secretions when infected.

It is an inflammation caused by bacterial infection after some small glands around the anus are blocked. The skin around the anus is relatively weak. If the secretions in the glands cannot be discharged smoothly, it will easily become a breeding ground for bacteria. When the bacteria multiply to a certain extent, the local infection may develop into a vesicle filled with pus, which is the main cause of perianal abscess.

In the early stage, it may only manifest as mild discomfort, such as a hard feeling near the anus, but most people will feel obvious tingling when the symptoms worsen. As the disease progresses, you may see local redness and swelling or even skin rupture and pus discharge. Some people may also have systemic symptoms such as fever and fatigue. If the abscess is not treated in time, the pus will penetrate into deeper tissues and may cause the infection to spread. In severe cases, anal fistula may form.

In order to better screen and avoid worsening of the disease in life, you need to pay attention to the cleanliness and hygiene around the anus and keep bowel movements smooth. If you find repeated swelling and pain around the anus, obvious pain when touched, or pus discharge, do not delay and seek professional help as soon as possible. Avoid sitting or squatting for a long time, and try to eat foods rich in fiber to promote healthier intestinal function and reduce the burden from the source.
