How to check for breast cysts

How to check for breast cysts

Breast cysts are mainly examined through imaging combined with clinical palpation, and the doctor determines their nature and potential risks.

Breast cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form in breast tissue. They are usually benign lesions that are more common in women of childbearing age and may be related to hormone fluctuations in the body. Typically, cysts appear as smooth, soft or elastic lumps in the breasts, and some patients may feel the lumps getting bigger or causing mild pain before and after the menstrual cycle.

The most common methods for examining breast cysts include ultrasound, mammography (molybdenum target), and puncture or biopsy when necessary. Ultrasound is usually the first choice, which can clearly distinguish cystic lesions from solid lesions and determine whether the cyst is liquid or solid. If the cyst is large or abnormal in shape, the doctor may recommend a mammogram to further understand the condition of it and nearby tissues. In some complex or difficult to judge cases, the doctor may perform a puncture to extract fluid, which can not only relieve the patient's discomfort, but also allow the fluid to be tested in the laboratory; if necessary, further tissue biopsy will be recommended to rule out the possibility of malignancy.

If you feel a lump in your breast or a tight, stiff breast, and have pain during your irregular menstrual cycle, you should promptly observe whether it is related to your period and consult a doctor as soon as possible. Avoiding excessive squeezing of the lump, maintaining a regular schedule, and avoiding large amounts of caffeine and high-fat foods can help reduce discomfort. If you find that the lump continues to grow, becomes hard, or is accompanied by abnormal discharge, you need to be more cautious and consult a doctor as soon as possible.
