What causes perianal abscess

What causes perianal abscess

Perianal abscess may be caused by infection, glandular duct obstruction, trauma or decreased immunity, etc., and targeted treatment measures need to be taken according to the specific cause, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, surgical incision and drainage, etc. Seeking medical attention as soon as possible is the key to treating perianal abscess.

Perianal abscesses are mainly related to infections around the anorectum, which is the most common direct cause. When the anal glands are infected by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus), resulting in gland obstruction and accumulation of pus, an abscess will form. Spicy diet, poor bowel habits, long periods of sitting or standing, etc. will interfere with intestinal function and indirectly induce perianal abscesses. Trauma is also one of the causes. For example, wound infection after anal fissures and hemorrhoid surgery will make it easier for bacteria to invade and lead to local suppuration. Other factors include low immunity caused by diabetes, AIDS, or long-term use of immunosuppressants, which will increase the risk of disease, especially making abscesses more stubborn and more prone to recurrence.

If perianal abscess is confirmed, treatment is divided into two categories: drug control and surgical operation. For early infection, antibiotics such as metronidazole (anti-inflammatory and bactericidal) and cephalosporins (to prevent secondary infection) can be used for combined treatment. Local hot compresses or sitz baths can promote blood circulation and help relieve inflammation. When the disease progresses seriously, surgery is usually the only effective treatment method, including incision and drainage (draining pus and relieving pain), anal fistula resection (used in cases where fistula formation occurs), or high-positioned abscesses require more precise positioning and deep drainage. During the recovery period, attention should be paid to wound care, regular dressing changes, and prevention of secondary bacterial infection. At the same time, a reasonable adjustment of the diet structure, reducing high-fat, spicy and irritating foods, and increasing crude fiber diets such as whole wheat bread and green leafy vegetables, will help prevent constipation and aggravate infection.

Patients with perianal abscesses should pay attention to adjusting their lifestyle habits, such as keeping the anus clean and avoiding squeezing the affected area; drinking plenty of water to promote smooth bowel movements; and maintaining a regular schedule to enhance immunity. If symptoms worsen or recur repeatedly, you must seek medical attention as soon as possible. Do not rely on folk remedies or self-treatment to complicate the condition. Only by taking scientific treatment and care methods can the problem be effectively alleviated and solved from the root. The body is the foundation of all happiness. Only by responding to health problems in a timely manner and taking practical actions can you stay away from disease troubles.
