Imported massage chairs: check the rating label and compliance documents

Start with the destination

Identify the country of sale, planned venue and actual electrical supply. Ask a qualified local adviser which rules apply to that configuration and use. Keep that decision with the purchase documents so a change in destination or features can be reviewed before shipment.

Read the chair’s rating label

Request a clear photo of the finished unit’s label and plug, plus the manual. Match the exact model suffix, input voltage and frequency, current or power, and grounding requirements to the intended installation. A shape adaptor does not convert voltage or frequency; see Electrical Safety First’s adaptor guidance.

Verify CE documentation where applicable

For a product subject to CE marking, request the signed EU Declaration of Conformity for the actual model and check the manufacturer and applicable EU rules it identifies. The EU’s official guidance explains the manufacturer’s declaration and when a notified body may be needed. A logo photo cannot establish that the declaration covers your variant.

Check the scope of a claimed listing

For a U.S. workplace, check whether OSHA’s NRTL program is relevant to the equipment and use. If a supplier claims UL or ETL certification, verify the complete chair and exact model or model family in UL Product iQ or Intertek’s ETL directory, as applicable. A listing for a power cord or internal component does not establish a listing for the finished chair.

Make the label part of acceptance

Keep approved label artwork, the manual, documentation references and a sample-unit photo together. Check production units against those records. Pause shipment if the suffix, electrical rating or manufacturer differs, and ask for traceable confirmation before accepting the change.
