How to treat perianal abscess before it leaks

How to treat perianal abscess before it leaks

Perianal abscess should be treated as soon as possible before anal fistula is formed to prevent the condition from getting worse and complications. The main treatment methods include incision and drainage, anti-infection treatment, and auxiliary life care and adjustment.

1. Incision and drainage

The core treatment of perianal abscess is to drain the pus through surgical incision and drainage to prevent further spread of infection. When the abscess has not yet developed into a complex state, timely small incision drainage is the preferred method. Some patients with more limited abscesses can complete the operation under local anesthesia, which is fast and effective. After surgery, you also need to pay attention to wound care, keep the healing environment clean, and prevent secondary infection.

2. Anti-infection treatment

In order to control infection and relieve inflammation, doctors will choose antibiotics according to the severity of the abscess. Commonly used drugs include penicillins (such as amoxicillin) or cephalosporins (such as cefuroxime axetil). If the patient has diabetes, immunosuppression, etc., a broader spectrum of antibiotics may be needed. When using antibiotics, be sure to follow the doctor's instructions and make sure that the course of treatment is sufficient.

3. Life care and diet adjustment

Adjustments to your lifestyle after surgery or during anti-infection treatment are important to speed recovery:

-Diet: Eat more fiber-rich foods, such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and drink plenty of water to prevent constipation. Constipation can easily aggravate perianal inflammation and discomfort, and even affect the recovery process.

- Cleanliness habits: Take a daily warm water sitz bath (the recommended temperature is around 40 degrees Celsius, 10-15 minutes each time) to relieve pain and inflammation and promote local blood circulation.

-Keep the wound dry: Use a breathable sanitary dressing and change the dressing frequently to avoid long-term moisture that may make wound healing difficult.

4. Prevent anal fistula formation

If the drainage of perianal abscess is not thorough or the treatment is delayed, the abscess cavity may gradually form a fistula to the outside world or the intestine, that is, anal fistula. In the early management of abscess, special attention should be paid to thorough drainage to prevent the development of fistula. If the formation of anal fistula cannot be avoided for some reason, further surgical treatment is required.

The best time to treat perianal abscess is when it is not yet anal fistula. You should actively choose appropriate methods for intervention under the guidance of a doctor, and pay great attention to daily care and diet adjustment to promote early recovery and avoid recurrence. It is key to seek medical treatment as soon as possible, and do not delay the condition.
