Treatment of ureteral stones

Treatment of ureteral stones

Treatment of ureteral stones:

Ureteral stones are usually formed when kidney stones temporarily block the narrow part of the ureter during the discharge process. The symptoms of ureteral stones are generally severe renal colic. The stones are usually discharged suddenly after exercise or at night. The patient's ureteral stones do not have pain symptoms, which vary from person to person.

1. Conservative treatment

1. Drink plenty of water

Most patients go to the hospital and after examination, they find that the urinary stones are small. The doctor will advise them to drink more water and no surgery is needed. Although the ureteral stones are small, the pain will make the patient feel pain. In order to expel the stones as soon as possible, patients should develop the habit of drinking more water to reduce the concentration of urinary stones.

2. Control urinary tract infection

Magnesium ammonium phosphate stones are a common type of ureteral stones. If combined with infection, the symptoms will be more obvious. In order to control the condition, urinary tract infection should be controlled.

3. Adjust your diet

Unhealthy eating habits are one of the causes of the disease. In order to treat the disease, the first priority is to adjust the diet. Patients with ureteral stones should eat more vegetables and fruits, more meat, more low-purine foods, and more low-methionine foods.

4. Injection of anti-inflammatory drugs

Abdominal cramps are one of the symptoms of ureteral stones. Pain relief should be given before treatment. Injection of indomethacin is one of the most effective ways to relieve pain. If this method cannot be used, fluid infusion can be used to relieve symptoms.

2. Surgical treatment

Surgical treatment is suitable for patients with large ureteral stones and obvious symptoms. The purpose of treatment is to break up the stones and expel them.

1. Surgery

If the stone is large and the probability of spontaneous excretion is low, surgery is required. If the stone is complicated by obstruction, surgery is also required. In recent years, lithotripsy equipment has become more and more advanced, attracting most patients with ureteral stones.

2. Principles of surgical treatment

If bilateral ureteral stones are complicated by obstruction, renal pelvic resection should be performed during surgery to correct the obstruction; if concurrent hyperthyroidism is present, parathyroid surgery is required.
