What to do if you have mastitis during lactation?

If the breast is red, swollen, hot, and painful but has not yet formed an abscess, the following methods can be used:

1. Promote milk emptying: When you feel breast pain, swelling or even local skin redness, you should feed your child frequently so that the child can eat as much milk as possible from the breast. If necessary, you can empty the breast by suction. When the inflammation worsens, the skin will be edematous, hard and hot, purple-blue, and nipple edema will occur. There are swollen and painful nodules in the armpits, which prevent the arms from approaching the trunk. This is caused by excessive lactation of the accessory mammary glands. Milk 7 to 8 times a day. Second, try to empty the milk every time. You can gently massage the nipples with an oily wooden comb. If necessary, ask a surgeon to help massage. This is the most effective measure to treat early mastitis and prevent further development of inflammation.

2. Local physical therapy and hot compress: Physical therapy or hot compress with a hot towel for 20 to 30 minutes each time, 3 to 4 times a day, is effective for early inflammation.

3. Application of antibiotics: When the above methods are ineffective, cephalosporin, metronidazole or other antibiotics should be used promptly, intramuscularly or intravenously.

4. Treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine: There are many external prescriptions in traditional Chinese medicine that are effective in treating mastitis. The cactus can also be crushed. After crushing, apply it on the mastitis area, and apply clean gauze on the outside. Change it 1 to 2 times a day, and it will be effective in 2 to 3 days.

Treatment of localized breast suppuration

1. Let your child only eat breast milk from healthy breasts.

2. It is necessary to go to the surgical department for treatment, incision and drainage of the local abscess, and regular dressing changes to promote healing as soon as possible.

3. Combined with physical therapy, it can promote local blood circulation and promote wound healing.

4. Combined with traditional Chinese medicine treatment. But the key is to go to a breast specialist clinic as soon as possible to seek help from a breast specialist.
