How to treat perianal abscess in pregnant women

Pregnant women with perianal abscesses should seek medical attention as soon as possible and be evaluated by a specialist to ensure the safety of mother and baby.

Perianal abscess is a purulent lesion caused by infection of the tissues around the rectum. It manifests as local redness, swelling, heat and pain. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever. During pregnancy, women's immunity may be reduced, and the resistance to bacteria around the rectum becomes weaker, so infection is more likely to occur. If not treated in time, the infection may spread and even cause systemic complications.

If you fail to seek medical attention in time, the first way to relieve symptoms is to keep the area clean and dry. You can wash the anus with warm water every day and choose an antibacterial ointment that is safe during pregnancy under the guidance of a professional doctor. You should eat more high-fiber foods, such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, to avoid constipation, because straining during bowel movements may increase the swelling and pain of the abscess. You also need to walk around appropriately and avoid sitting for long periods of time to reduce local pressure on the anus.

If you find that the symptoms continue to not improve or deteriorate sharply, you need to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment immediately. Perianal abscesses may require medication, and even after the abscess cavity is formed, it should be drained in time under the guidance of a doctor. Pregnant women have complicated conditions, so do not take medication or treat them on your own to avoid unnecessary risks to the fetus or your own health. Pay attention to regular prenatal checkups and inform the doctor of related discomfort symptoms so that a suitable treatment plan can be developed.
