How to treat kidney stone cysts to eliminate them

The key to treating kidney stone cysts is to choose the appropriate treatment method according to the size of the stones, the nature of the cysts and the patient's physical condition, including conservative treatment, drug treatment, minimally invasive surgery or open surgery. It is recommended to combine the professional guidance of the doctor according to the condition and do not delay the condition.

1) Medication and conservative treatment

Smaller kidney stones (generally less than 5 mm) and uncomplicated cysts can be managed conservatively with medication and lifestyle modifications.

-Drink more water: Drinking more than 2500 ml of water every day can help dilute urine, prevent stones from growing, and promote the excretion of small stones.

- Adjust your diet: Reduce the intake of high-calcium and high-purine foods such as animal offal and seafood, and increase the intake of foods rich in vitamin B6 and magnesium such as bananas and nuts, which can help prevent stones.

-Medication to promote stone excretion: The doctor may prescribe stone excretion granules or use calcium channel blockers to relax the ureters to promote stone excretion. If cysts cause kidney problems, you may need to take anti-inflammatory drugs.

2) Minimally invasive treatment

Minimally invasive techniques are an effective and safe option for medium to large kidney stones (greater than 1 cm in diameter) or cysts that do not respond to medical treatment.

- Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL): Suitable for most small and medium-sized stones, it uses sound waves to break up the stones and then they are naturally excreted from the body.

- Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL): For larger and more complex stones, it is effective for removing them through a percutaneous channel.

-Cyst aspiration or sclerotherapy: For larger simple cysts, the cyst fluid can be aspirated under ultrasound or CT guidance and a sclerosing agent can be injected to prevent the cyst fluid from forming again.

3) Surgical treatment

If the stones are large or the cysts are accompanied by severe symptoms or infection, surgical intervention should be considered.

- Ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URS): Applicable to ureteral stones or massive stones, using a mirror to accurately locate and break up the stones.

-Partial nephrectomy: For some complex cysts, especially cystic lesions or the possibility of benign tumors, partial resection of the lesion is recommended to preserve renal function.

-Nephrectomy: This is the most extreme case and is only performed when the renal cyst is malignant and irreversible.

The treatment of kidney stone cysts needs to be combined with individual symptoms and pathological characteristics to select the appropriate treatment plan. Early detection and treatment can often significantly improve the effect. It is recommended that patients go to the hospital for detailed examination as soon as possible once they experience symptoms such as low back pain, hematuria or dysuria to avoid worsening of the condition. Through standardized treatment and health management, most patients can recover well.
