Are breast nodules cystic hyperplasia of the breast?

Breast nodules and breast cystic hyperplasia are not the same concept. They are two different breast health problems. Although they may sound similar, their causes, characteristics and treatments are not exactly the same.

Breast nodules usually refer to irregular lumps that appear in breast tissue. They can be benign lesions or manifestations of malignant tumors. Common benign breast nodules include fibroadenomas, cysts, etc., while malignant tumors refer to breast cancer. For cystic breast hyperplasia, it is more due to fibrosis or cystic changes in the breast lobules and ducts caused by fluctuations in hormone levels (especially estrogen) in the body, and often manifests as benign physiological changes such as breast tenderness and periodic lumps.

Breast nodules may be formed due to inflammation, hyperplasia or tumors, which are manifested by changes in the shape, size, borders and mobility of the lumps. Cystic breast hyperplasia is more likely to be related to the menstrual cycle, and the breasts may feel swollen or painful or the lumps may rise and fall before and after the menstrual period. The definitive diagnosis of these two conditions requires imaging examinations (such as breast ultrasound, mammography) or histopathological examinations when necessary.

In daily life, if you find a lump in the breast or periodic pain, you can improve it by adjusting your diet and lifestyle. For example, reducing the intake of caffeine and high-fat foods, increasing the proportion of foods rich in vitamin E, exercising moderately, and maintaining emotional stability are all conducive to breast health. If the lump persists, becomes larger, or is accompanied by abnormal symptoms such as nipple discharge and breast skin dimpling, you should go to a regular medical institution for professional evaluation in time.
