The whole process of breast nodule puncture

Breast nodule puncture is an important diagnostic method for clarifying the nature of breast lesions. The whole process is safe and effective, with minimal pain. Most people have almost no obvious discomfort under local anesthesia. It extracts tissue or cells from the inside of the breast nodule for pathological examination and is often used to determine benign and malignant lesions.

Before the puncture, the doctor usually uses breast ultrasound or mammography to determine the location of the nodule to ensure that the puncture site is accurate. If the patient suspects or has been diagnosed with a nodule in the breast, and the doctor believes that it is necessary to perform a puncture to determine the nature, this step will usually be arranged. Preoperative preparation includes cleaning the skin and marking the puncture site. Patients do not need to be too nervous, and can communicate with the doctor about the specific operation steps to relieve psychological pressure. The entire puncture is usually divided into two types: fine needle aspiration (collecting cytological samples) or thick needle aspiration (collecting histological samples). Fine needle aspiration uses a very fine needle. After the needle is inserted, the doctor will gently aspirate to obtain cells; thick needle puncture requires a slightly larger needle, and special equipment is used to obtain the tissue in the needle core. After local anesthesia, the pain when the needle enters the skin is minimal, and the process usually takes only 5-10 minutes. After the doctor has obtained enough samples, he will press the puncture site with sterile gauze for a few minutes, and sometimes cover it with a sterile dressing.

After the puncture, the patient needs to be careful to keep the puncture site dry and clean to avoid infection. Most people will not experience obvious discomfort, but if redness, swelling or persistent pain of the skin is observed, a follow-up visit should be made in time. While waiting for the pathological results, patients are advised to remain calm and avoid excessive anxiety. Most breast nodules are benign. If a benign result is confirmed in the pathology report, only regular follow-up examinations are required, and usually no further intervention is required. If it is confirmed to be a malignant lesion, the doctor will develop the next treatment plan based on the results, including surgical resection, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Breast nodule puncture is not only an important method for diagnosing diseases, but also an effective means to prevent overtreatment. During this process, patients must cooperate with the medical team to complete the operation and have a positive attitude. With the continuous development of modern medical technology, the cure rate of breast diseases has also increased significantly. Early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment are the keys to health. If you have any questions, be sure to seek medical attention in a timely manner and consult in detail to give yourself a clear answer.
