Symptoms of perianal abscess in children

Children's perianal abscesses often cause local swelling, pain, and even fever. In severe cases, timely medical treatment is required to avoid further infection. Usually, parents should be vigilant when they find these symptoms and seek evaluation from professional doctors in a timely manner.

Perianal abscess is a localized purulent infection around the anus caused by bacterial infection. It is common in infants and young children, especially those who have not yet taken off diapers. Because the skin is delicate, the perianal area is easily damaged by friction, moisture or stimulation from stool, causing bacteria to invade and cause infection.

In this case, careful parents often notice that the skin around the baby's anus becomes red and swollen, and there may be a small warm lump to the touch. When this infected area is squeezed, the baby may show obvious discomfort and cry incessantly. Another common symptom is that the baby's body temperature rises, and even fever occurs. If the abscess ruptures, purulent secretions may flow out, and special attention should be paid to wound care at this time.

In order to prevent and relieve the symptoms of perianal abscesses in children, parents should keep the baby's perianal area clean and dry, change diapers frequently, and avoid leaving the baby in a wet state for a long time. If perianal infection has occurred, parents should not blindly try to squeeze or prick these abscesses to avoid aggravating the infection or causing deeper tissue damage. In these cases, take the baby to the hospital for professional diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible to avoid delaying the condition. Especially for recurring cases, the doctor may also recommend further examination to rule out more complex causes. Early identification and intervention are the key to solving the problem of perianal abscesses.
