Treatment of burns based on TCM differentiation of symptoms and signs

Burns and scalds are classified into the fire-toxicity hot type, the fire-injury Yin type, and the Yin-injury Yang type in TCM. The fire-toxicity hot type is characterized by high fever, thirst, cold drinks, and in severe cases, drowsiness, red urine, red tongue with yellow fur, and a strong pulse. The fire-injury Yin type is characterized by high fever, irritability, thirst, constipation, red urine, red and dry tongue, and stringy and thin pulse. The Yin-injury Yang type is characterized by no increase in body temperature, mental atrophy, shortness of breath, tremors in the limbs, dark complexion, and a thin and rapid pulse.

1. Prescribe appropriate amount of Callicarpa sibiricum leaves.

Preparation method: Wash the medicine, dry it in the shade, study the powder, dry it at high temperature, seal it for later use. Usage: Cut the burn blisters with sterilized scissors, sprinkle the powder on it, bandage it with gauze, and change the dressing every 1-2 days. Do not open the scab when changing the dressing, and then sprinkle the powder. When changing the dressing of an infected wound, remove the old scab and sprinkle new powder.

Mainly used to treat small area burns.

2. 30g honeysuckle and 10g raw licorice.

Preparation: Wash the above two herbs, add water and boil. Usage: Take in the morning and evening, 1 dose per day.

Mainly used to treat burns and scalds.

3. Prescribe appropriate amount of fresh grapes.

Preparation: Wash the grapes, remove the seeds and mash them. Usage: Apply to the wound several times a day.

Minor burns.

4. Prescribe appropriate amount of inner layer of fir bark and duck egg white.

Preparation method: Burn the fir bark into charcoal but not into ash, sieve it while hot, and then mix it with duck egg white into a paste. Usage: Apply to the affected area and change the dressing every 1-2 days.

Mainly used to treat small area burns.

5. Prescription raw radish

Raw radish can be washed and mashed. Apply the radish paste externally twice a day.

Mainly used for people with skin burns that are not broken.

6. Appropriate amount of potatoes.

Preparation: Peel the potatoes, wash and mash them, wrap them in gauze and extract the juice. Usage: Apply to the affected area twice a day.
