How to detect brain aneurysms

The examination of intracerebral aneurysms is mainly carried out through imaging methods, including CT angiography, magnetic resonance angiography and digital subtraction angiography. These methods can accurately identify the location, size and morphology of aneurysms and provide a basis for subsequent treatment.

1. CT angiography (CTA)

CT angiography is a non-invasive test that uses CT scanning to generate a three-dimensional image of blood vessels after injecting a contrast agent. This method is fast, convenient, and suitable for initial screening in acute situations. CTA can clearly show the morphology of the aneurysm and its relationship with the surrounding tissues, but it may not be sensitive enough for smaller aneurysms.

2. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)

Magnetic resonance angiography uses magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves to produce images of blood vessels, and the examination can be completed without the injection of contrast agents. MRA has high resolution for soft tissues and is suitable for screening and long-term follow-up. Its advantage is that it does not cause radiation, but it may not clearly show areas of calcification or slow blood flow.

3. Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA)

Digital subtraction angiography is the gold standard for diagnosing intracerebral aneurysms. Contrast agents are injected directly into blood vessels through a catheter, and high-resolution vascular images are generated using X-ray imaging technology. DSA can accurately display the details of aneurysms, including hemodynamic characteristics, but it is an invasive examination and has certain risks.

The choice of examination for intracerebral aneurysms should be determined based on the patient's specific situation. For patients with suspected aneurysms, it is recommended to first undergo non-invasive examinations such as CTA or MRA. If the results are unclear or further evaluation is required, DSA can be considered. Early detection and accurate diagnosis are the key to preventing aneurysm rupture.

The examination of intracerebral aneurysms is not only related to diagnosis, but also directly affects the choice of treatment options. Regular screening and timely medical treatment are particularly important for high-risk groups. Through scientific examination methods, the risk of aneurysm rupture can be effectively reduced to ensure the safety of patients' lives.
