What is the cause of the prominent ankle talus?

What is the cause of the prominent ankle talus?

Obvious protrusion of the talus at the ankle joint may be caused by talus fracture, talus cartilage injury or talus dislocation, etc., and requires prompt medical treatment for a clear diagnosis and targeted treatment.

1. Talus fracture

Talus fractures are usually caused by trauma, such as falling from a height, traffic accidents, or sprains during strenuous exercise. After the fracture, the position of the talus may change, causing the joint to protrude significantly. In terms of treatment, mild fractures can be fixed with plaster for 6-8 weeks, combined with rehabilitation training to restore function; moderate fractures may require surgical reduction and fixation with screws; severe fractures require arthrodesis to stabilize the ankle joint.

2. Talus cartilage injury

Talus cartilage injuries are mostly caused by long-term sports wear and tear or acute sprains, and are manifested as joint pain, swelling, and limited mobility. In terms of treatment, mild injuries can be relieved by rest, ice compresses, and oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; moderate injuries require arthroscopic surgery to clean the damaged cartilage; severe injuries may require cartilage transplantation or stem cell therapy to repair.

3. Talus dislocation

A talus dislocation is usually caused by a serious injury, such as a car accident or a violent collision during sports. After the dislocation, the talus is abnormally positioned, causing the joint to stick out noticeably. Mild dislocations can be treated by manipulation and immobilization for 4-6 weeks; moderate dislocations require surgical reduction and fixation with a plate or screws; severe dislocations may require joint replacement.

Obvious protrusion of the talus at the ankle joint is a symptom that needs to be taken seriously. It may be related to fracture, cartilage damage or dislocation. Timely medical treatment and clear diagnosis through imaging examinations are the key. Depending on the severity of the disease, conservative treatment or surgical treatment is selected, combined with rehabilitation training, which helps to restore joint function. In daily life, avoid strenuous exercise and trauma, and strengthen the muscles around the ankle joint to effectively prevent such problems.
