What causes breast cysts?

Breast cysts are small fluid-filled vesicles that appear in the breast. They are usually related to fluctuations in hormone levels, such as around menstruation or menopause. Breast cysts vary in size and symptoms. Small cysts may not cause any problems, while large cysts may cause breast tenderness. If the size of the cyst changes significantly before and after the menstrual cycle, it is probably benign. Severe pain or hardening of the cyst should be taken seriously so that other diseases can be ruled out.
