Can breast cysts turn into breast cancer?

Breast cysts do not usually develop into breast cancer, but if there are unusual changes or other risk factors, regular follow-up with your doctor is recommended.

Breast cysts are a very common breast disease, especially in women aged 30 to 50. It is actually a cystic structure formed by fluid accumulation caused by cystic hyperplasia of the breast lobule. It is mostly benign and fundamentally different from breast cancer in nature. In most cases, breast cysts do not threaten health and only cause breast pain or discomfort when touching a lump in some people.

Although breast cysts are generally benign, they may be of particular concern in certain circumstances, such as when the cyst continues to grow, is irregular in shape, is accompanied by abnormal nipple discharge, or if there is a family history of breast cancer. Medical technology can accurately distinguish cysts from other breast lesions through imaging tests (such as ultrasound or mammography), and fine needle aspiration may be used as part of diagnosis and treatment when necessary.

If you find a cyst in your breast, don't panic, but don't ignore it either. It is recommended to maintain a good habit of regular breast examinations and listen to the doctor's advice on evaluating the nature of the cyst and the frequency of follow-up. At the same time, pay attention to your daily eating habits and avoid consuming too much caffeine and high-fat foods, which may aggravate breast discomfort. If the cyst is abnormal or the lesion is unclear, timely medical treatment can better protect your health.
