What is the difference between breast cysts and breast cancer?

Breast cysts and breast cancer are two completely different conditions. Most breast cysts are benign lesions and will not develop into breast cancer, but if any breast abnormalities are found, you still need to seek medical attention in time.

Breast cyst is a common benign breast disease caused by the expansion of breast ducts and the accumulation of fluid. It usually appears as a soft or elastic, movable small lump. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor. Its lump is usually hard, not easy to move, with an uneven surface, and may be accompanied by nipple retraction or skin abnormalities. The two are significantly different in touch, pathological characteristics and course of disease.

Breast cysts may be affected by hormone fluctuations in the body, especially during the menstrual cycle. Many women experience periodic pain or swelling, but these symptoms generally ease after menstruation. Breast cancer develops more insidiously and may have no symptoms in the early stages. Some patients may only feel persistent abnormalities in the breast or touch a fixed lump. Breast cancer may also be accompanied by swollen lymph nodes, nipple discharge, or skin dimpling, and often requires ultrasound, mammography, or biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can reduce the chance of breast problems. Perform regular breast self-examinations and pay attention to whether the touch is abnormal; perform breast ultrasound examinations every year, especially for people over 40 years old or with a family history. If you find that the texture of a breast lump has changed, the discomfort persists, or is accompanied by other suspicious symptoms, be sure to seek medical attention in time for professional diagnosis and treatment.
