Causes of varicose veins

Causes of varicose veins

The causes of varicose veins mainly include genetic factors, environmental factors, physiological factors and the influence of certain diseases. Understanding these causes will help to better prevent and treat varicose veins.

1) Genetic factors:

Studies have found that varicose veins have a certain genetic tendency. If there is a direct relative with varicose veins in the family, the risk of the disease in the offspring will increase significantly. This may be related to the congenital weakness of the venous wall and venous valve structure, which makes it easier for blood to stay in the veins. For people with a family history of the disease, more attention should be paid to daily prevention, such as avoiding standing or sitting for long periods of time, and increasing the amount of thigh activity.

2) Environmental factors:

Standing or sitting for long periods of time is the main external factor that induces varicose veins. For example, in professions such as tellers, teachers, and waiters, the pressure on the veins is constantly high, and the venous valves are prone to failure. Obesity is also an important cause. Being overweight can cause excessive pressure in the veins of the lower limbs, promoting the development of varicose veins. To reduce the impact of environmental factors, it is recommended to move the legs every 1-2 hours, or rest with the legs raised, to help blood return; weight control is also very critical.

3) Physiological factors:

Ageing and pregnancy are two important physiological factors. As age increases, the venous walls and valves gradually degenerate; during pregnancy, due to increased abdominal pressure and changes in hormone levels, the lower limb veins are easily compressed. For pregnant women, you can use elastic stockings specially made for pregnant women to relieve the pressure, while avoiding strenuous physical labor.

4) Pathological factors:

Diseases such as chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, and venous valve dysfunction can also cause varicose veins. These pathological problems usually require professional treatment, such as drug therapy (commonly used flavonoids to improve venous elasticity), and in severe cases, surgical treatment (such as laser therapy, high ligation, or foam sclerosant injection, etc.) can be considered. If you suspect a related pathological problem, you should go to a medical institution for diagnosis in a timely manner.

I hope that through the above analysis, everyone can have a clear understanding of the causes of varicose veins. If an individual has high-risk factors, such as standing for a long time, family history or obvious varicose veins, he or she should actively prevent or see a doctor as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the disease and improve the quality of life.
