How to treat knee arthritis

How to treat knee arthritis

Treatment of knee inflammation can be improved through medication, physical therapy and surgery. Medication includes nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics and hormones, physical therapy such as exercise and physiotherapy can relieve symptoms, while surgery is an effective option for severe cases.

1) Medication: Patients often get relief from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which can reduce pain and stiffness. Commonly used NSAIDs include ibuprofen and indomethacin. For inflammation caused by bacterial infection, doctors may prescribe antibiotics, and in certain cases, hormone drugs such as cortisone may be used for short-term treatment.

2) Physical therapy: Moderate exercise can promote knee joint flexibility and blood circulation. Swimming and cycling are good choices, which can reduce the pressure on the joints. Physical therapy, such as hot compresses and ultrasound therapy, can also help eliminate the discomfort caused by inflammation.

3) Surgery: For patients who do not respond well to medication and physical therapy, surgery may be a necessary option. Arthroscopic surgery can remove diseased tissue within the joint, and partial or total knee replacement can solve problems caused by severe wear and tear of the knee joint.

A scientific and reasonable treatment plan and lifestyle can effectively relieve knee joint inflammation. Patients should maintain a healthy weight in their daily life to reduce extra pressure on the knee joint. A balanced diet and a rich intake of vitamin D and calcium can also help bone health. Consulting a doctor in time and adjusting the treatment plan according to professional advice can better cope with the challenges brought by knee joint inflammation.
