How to treat and eliminate neonatal hemangioma?

Neonatal hemangiomas can be treated with observation, medical therapy, and surgical resection, depending on the size, location, and impact of the hemangioma. In general, observation is preferred because most neonatal hemangiomas will regress naturally over time, especially if they are small and do not affect function.

Medical treatment can be oral beta-blockers such as propranolol, which is an effective drug for shrinking hemangiomas and is usually performed under the strict supervision of a doctor. Hormonal therapy such as oral steroids may also be used in some cases, but attention should be paid to its side effects. For hemangiomas in certain complex or dangerous locations, laser treatment may be an option to reduce obvious red vascular tissue, especially in prominent locations such as the face. If medical treatment is ineffective or the hemangioma has a serious impact on the baby's function, surgical removal may need to be considered. Surgery is usually performed after the condition is confirmed and the surgical risks are assessed to provide the baby with the best chance of treatment.

During treatment, regular medical monitoring is necessary to observe changes in the hemangioma and adjust the treatment plan. Parents are encouraged to pay attention to their children's emotional and mental health and reduce anxiety about appearance. Seeking help from psychological counseling and support groups can reduce the psychological burden. If the hemangioma is found to be suddenly enlarged or affects the baby's basic functions such as vision and breathing, medical attention should be sought immediately. These steps ensure that intervention and treatment can be carried out under the guidance of a doctor when necessary.
