Can premature ventricular contractions cause insufficient blood flow to the heart?

Premature ventricular beats may cause insufficient blood supply to the heart, especially when they are frequent and last for a long time. You should consult a cardiovascular specialist for evaluation as soon as possible.

Premature ventricular beats are premature ectopic excitations of the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles), which manifest as irregular heartbeats and occasional "skipped beats" or "thumps". Most occasional, single or short bursts of premature ventricular beats are harmless, but if they occur frequently or are combined with other heart problems, they may affect heart function.

When ventricular premature beats are frequent, the heart's pumping function will be disturbed. Just like a sudden machine failure in a factory assembly line, affecting the entire production rhythm, the uneven timing of heart contraction and relaxation may lead to insufficient myocardial oxygen supply, chest tightness, fatigue and other symptoms. Long-term and frequent premature beats may also increase the risk of heart failure or malignant arrhythmias, especially for patients with existing coronary heart disease or cardiomyopathy.

If you find yourself having occasional premature beats but no obvious symptoms, you can start with lifestyle adjustments, such as avoiding stimulating drinks such as strong tea and coffee, getting enough sleep, and reducing psychological stress. However, if premature beats are frequent or accompanied by symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible, and use electrocardiograms, dynamic electrocardiograms, and other tests to determine the cause and decide whether medication or other treatment is needed.
