How to prevent and treat gallstones

The key to the prevention and treatment of gallstones is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and choose the appropriate treatment method according to the specific condition. For patients with gallstones who have obvious symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible and determine the treatment plan through professional examinations.

Gallstones are formed when the concentration of cholesterol or bile pigment in bile is too high, leading to crystal deposition. Its formation is related to many factors, such as improper diet, obesity, genetic factors, and cholestasis. Some patients with gallstones may have no symptoms, while others may experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, etc., especially after eating greasy food.

Gallstones can be classified as either asymptomatic or symptomatic, depending on the condition. Asymptomatic gallstones can usually be managed with regular observation and a controlled diet, while symptomatic patients may require medication to dissolve the stones, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, or surgery (such as cholecystectomy). For cases where symptoms are severe or recurring, surgery is the most effective solution. After surgery, the body can still digest food normally because bile goes directly into the intestines.

In order to prevent gallstones, it is recommended to start with lifestyle habits: ① Maintain a balanced diet, reduce the intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, and increase the intake of dietary fiber, such as eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains; ② Avoid overeating or long-term dieting, regular meals can help bile discharge normally; ③ Control weight and avoid rapid weight loss in a short period of time; ④ Drink plenty of water to promote bile dilution; ⑤ Moderate exercise helps to maintain gallbladder health. If there is a family history of gallstones, you need to pay special attention and have regular physical examinations for early detection and early treatment.

Most gallstones can be prevented through a healthy diet, a regular schedule and moderate exercise. If you already have symptoms, you should consult a doctor in time so that you can take the most appropriate treatment to avoid worsening of the condition or complications.
