Acute sacroiliitis treatment

Acute sacroiliitis treatment

Treatment of acute sacroiliitis includes medication to control inflammation, physical therapy to relieve pain, and surgical intervention when necessary, combined with lifestyle adjustments for faster recovery.

Acute sacroiliitis is pain and limited mobility caused by acute inflammation of the sacroiliac joint due to infection, trauma or overuse. The first choice of drug treatment is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen, celecoxib) to relieve inflammation and pain. Antibiotics may be used for infectious inflammation, such as amoxicillin, cephalosporins, etc. In severe cases, short-term use of hormonal drugs (such as prednisone) can be considered. Physical therapy can help restore mobility. For example, hot compresses, ultrasound or low-frequency therapy can relax local muscles and reduce swelling and pain. For patients with recurrent attacks or ineffective medications, minimally invasive surgery (such as sacroiliac joint fixation) or joint injection therapy may be necessary to address instability or chronic inflammation.

In daily life, it is recommended to avoid excessive weight bearing, keep the joints properly rested, and do low-impact exercises such as swimming or walking to help strengthen the core muscles and stabilize the joints. A reasonable diet can help control inflammatory responses, and it is recommended to consume foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon and walnuts. If the symptoms are severe, be sure to seek medical attention in time, confirm the diagnosis through imaging examinations, and follow up regularly to ensure the treatment effect.
