Will breast cysts go away due to breastfeeding?

Breast cysts usually do not disappear completely during breastfeeding, but they may change to a certain extent due to changes in hormone levels in the body. To protect breast health, if you find abnormal cysts in your breasts or feel discomfort, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

Breast cysts are small cystic structures formed by fluid accumulation in the breast glands or alveoli, which are usually related to fluctuations in estrogen levels. During pregnancy and lactation, the hormonal environment in women's bodies changes dramatically, especially the secretion of estrogen and prolactin, which have a significant impact on the breast glands. This change may cause some cysts to shrink or even temporarily become less noticeable, but rarely disappear completely.

Breast cysts are divided into single and multiple types, and their size can range from a few millimeters to several centimeters. Some small cysts may not cause obvious symptoms, but large cysts may cause pressure or local pain. During breastfeeding, the fullness of the breast and the expansion of the milk ducts may make the cyst more prominent. If the cyst is infected or causes inflammation, it may also be accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, and fever. In this case, you need to seek medical treatment immediately.

In order to relieve the discomfort caused by breast cysts, on the one hand, you can choose to wear more supportive bras to help reduce breast pressure. On the other hand, avoiding high-fat or high-salt diets and consuming more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins can also help breast health. If the cyst during breastfeeding is accompanied by pain or has obvious changes in shape, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible to determine whether it is a simple cyst or requires further treatment.
