Are small brain aneurysms serious?

The treatment for ruptured brain aneurysms and unruptured brain aneurysms is different. Patients must be treated before the rupture of a brain aneurysm. At this time, it is easier to treat the disease. Once a brain aneurysm ruptures, the probability of death is 30%, and the mortality rate of a secondary rupture is 70%. This is to tell patients that early treatment of brain aneurysms is to improve the disease.

When a brain aneurysm ruptures, the later rescue process is the most critical. Cerebral hemorrhage after rupture of a brain aneurysm is a very serious problem.

There are three main surgical approaches to brain aneurysms:

1. The first is to close the aneurysm neck. This is the most commonly used and ideal method in brain aneurysm surgery. The doctor separates the aneurysm neck from the surrounding tissue and then uses an aneurysm clip to close the aneurysm neck. The reason for this is that it prevents the aneurysm from entering the blood without hindering the forward circulation of the aneurysm blood.

When dissecting the tissue around the neck of the aneurysm, special attention should be paid to sharp separation, which means separation with a knife, scissors, etc. This can avoid tearing the arachnoid membrane, which will affect the top of the aneurysm and cause bleeding.

2. The second type of surgery is called aneurysm isolation surgery, which, as the name suggests, is to isolate a cerebral aneurysm. The method used is ligation, which separates the aneurysm from the arterial system. This surgical method is applicable when the aneurysm neck is too large and cannot be well separated from the surrounding tissue, or when the neck of the cerebral aneurysm cannot be closed again, such as rupture or bleeding.

3. The third surgical method is aneurysm wall wrapping, that is, we can use some tissues or artificial materials to properly reinforce the aneurysm wall to reduce the possibility of its rupture. Even if the brain aneurysm ruptures, its bleeding can be controlled. This surgical method is more suitable for some brain aneurysms that cannot be isolated or closed. The materials that can be used for reinforcement generally include cotton pieces, gelatin sponge pieces or various biological glues.
