Hypersecretion of mucous glands in the pharynx

Hypersecretion of mucous glands in the pharynx

Hypersecretion of laryngeal mucous glands may be caused by bacterial infection, allergic reaction or lifestyle habits, and manifests as discomfort in the throat, foreign body sensation, increased sputum, etc. Treatment needs to be adjusted according to the specific cause, such as improving the environment, drug treatment or surgical intervention.

1 Possible cause:

① Infectious factors: Viral or bacterial infection is a common cause of increased secretion of the throat mucous glands. Colds, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc. can stimulate increased secretion of mucous glands to help remove pathogens. Infectious secretions are often accompanied by coughing, thick sputum or fever.

② Allergic reaction: When people with allergic constitution inhale allergens such as pollen and dust mites, the immune system will overreact, leading to an abnormal increase in mucus gland secretion. Patients usually have symptoms such as sneezing and nasal congestion.

③ Irritation factors: Long-term exposure to smoke, dust or air pollution can also damage the throat mucosa, thereby increasing mucus secretion. Spicy food and excessive use of the voice may also induce similar symptoms.

2. Coping methods:

① Infection treatment: Bacterial infections can be treated with oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin; viral infections usually need to recover on their own, but throat lozenges or tablets can be used to relieve discomfort. When the disease is more serious, anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can be used to reduce the inflammatory response.

②Control allergies: For allergy patients, you can take antihistamines such as loratadine to reduce mucus production; at the same time, stay away from known allergens and improve the living environment through air purifiers.

③Healthy habits: quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption to reduce chemical and mechanical stimulation to the throat; maintain adequate water intake to clear the mucus secretion pathway; avoid spicy and irritating foods, and eat more light and easily digestible foods such as green leafy vegetables, white porridge, etc.

④ Treatment measures for severe cases: For patients with long-term hypersecretion and persistent pharyngitis, minimally invasive surgery can be used to ablate the excessively proliferating mucous gland tissue under the doctor's advice. Nebulized inhalation therapy such as budesonide can also be used as an auxiliary treatment.

Hypersecretion of the throat mucous glands is mostly caused by controllable factors, but long-term symptoms can affect the quality of life and even lead to chronic diseases. If necessary, you need to seek medical attention in time to identify the cause and obtain targeted treatment. Cultivating a healthy lifestyle and regular checkups are the fundamental ways to prevent recurrence.
