Will breast cysts heal themselves with menopause?

It is possible that breast cystic lesions will resolve on their own after menopause, but this is not the case in all cases.

Breast cystic diseases are usually caused by the expansion of breast alveoli and the accumulation of secretions, which are greatly affected by the hormone levels in the body. Especially in women of childbearing age, due to the cyclical changes in estrogen and progesterone, breast tissue is prone to hyperplasia and cysts. However, after menopause, the estrogen level in women's bodies drops significantly, the breast tissue gradually shrinks, and some small cysts may disappear. However, if the cyst is large or accompanied by other abnormal conditions, it may not be able to disappear on its own.

The specific manifestations of cysts vary from person to person. Some people have almost no symptoms and are only discovered during physical examinations or imaging examinations, while some people may feel local breast tenderness or palpable lumps. Some cysts may be accompanied by transparent, milky white, or even bloody secretions. If the cyst has a regular shape, clear boundaries, and uniform internal fluid signals, it is usually benign; however, if a fixed, unclearly bounded mass is found, or if wall nodules or calcifications appear in the cyst, further investigation of potential problems is required.

It is recommended to monitor cyst changes regularly, especially during menopause. Ultrasound or mammography can determine the size, shape, and change trend of the cyst. If the cyst grows rapidly, becomes hard, or causes pain, you should seek medical attention for evaluation. In terms of diet, you can appropriately reduce the intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods, maintain a regular work and rest schedule, and reduce the sensitivity of the breast to hormones.
