Three signs of gallstones

The three main signs of gallstones are right upper abdominal pain, jaundice, and indigestion. These symptoms indicate that patients may be at potential risk of gallstones and should seek medical attention as soon as possible for diagnosis. Right upper abdominal pain is the most common symptom of gallstones. It usually occurs a few hours after eating, and the pain may radiate to the shoulder blade or back. Jaundice is the yellowing of the skin and eyes caused by obstruction of bile outflow. Indigestion is mainly manifested as flatulence, diarrhea, and discomfort aggravated by eating greasy food.

The causes of gallstone formation include genetic factors, external factors such as improper diet, and physiological factors of cholesterol metabolism disorders. If there is a family history of gallstones, the individual risk increases. High-fat, low-fiber intake in the diet often leads to increased bile cholesterol concentration, which is prone to stone formation. Metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes increase the incidence of gallstones. Clinically, abdominal ultrasound is the preferred method for diagnosing gallstones because it can accurately locate and measure the size of the stones. Treatment varies depending on the size of the stones and the severity of symptoms, including drug lithotripsy, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, and cholecystectomy.

Paying attention to dietary adjustment is an important measure to prevent and relieve the symptoms of gallstones. Eating more fiber-rich foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, can help excrete cholesterol and prevent stones. Avoid high-fat, high-cholesterol foods, such as fried foods, thick soups and processed meats. Moderate exercise is also an effective way to reduce the risk of gallstones. For example, brisk walking or swimming can promote cholesterol metabolism. If symptoms related to gallstones occur, you should seek medical attention in time and obtain appropriate treatment plans through professional diagnosis to prevent worsening of the disease or the occurrence of complications. Through appropriate lifestyle adjustments, many symptoms of gallstones can be relieved and controlled. Maintaining a positive and healthy attitude towards life is the key.
