How to cure osteomyelitis

Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory disease caused by bacterial infection that causes bone destruction with or without secondary bone hyperplasia. Common pathogens include Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus, etc. It can generally be alleviated or eradicated through medication, physical therapy, surgery, etc.

1. Drug treatment: Acute osteomyelitis is mostly caused by bacterial infection, so antibiotic treatment is the first choice. Commonly used antibiotics include clindamycin tablets, cefixime tablets, amoxicillin capsules, etc. For chronic osteomyelitis, due to the possible presence of drug-resistant bacteria or mixed infections, treatment is more difficult and requires longer antibiotic treatment. It may also require the combined use of multiple antibiotics, such as lincomycin and vancomycin tablets.

2. Physical therapy: This is also an important auxiliary means of treating osteomyelitis, including ultrashort wave, infrared, ultraviolet, etc. These physical therapy methods can improve local blood circulation, promote inflammation subsidence and tissue repair.

3. Surgical treatment: For acute osteomyelitis, if abscesses are formed locally, surgical drainage is required in a timely manner. Common surgical methods include drilling and drainage, fenestration and decompression, etc., to reduce local pressure and prevent the spread of infection. For chronic osteomyelitis, since dead bone, inflammatory granulation tissue and scar tissue may exist in the lesion, thorough lesion removal is required. Surgical methods include dead bone resection, curettage, open bone grafting, diseased segment resection, etc., to remove the source of infection and promote healing.

Patients should get enough rest and avoid overwork and strenuous exercise. Appropriate immobilization should be performed on the affected limb to reduce pain and prevent the condition from getting worse. Use medications according to doctor's orders and do not take medications on your own. If you experience any discomfort, you should seek medical help as soon as possible.
