Tenosynovitis symptoms and treatment

Tenosynovitis symptoms and treatment

The symptoms of tenosynovitis mainly include pain, limited activity, local swelling, functional impairment, etc. Treatment is mainly to relieve pain and restore activity function, including general treatment, drug treatment and surgical treatment.

1. Symptoms:

1. Pain: There will be pain and burning sensation in the affected area, and local nodules, especially when straightening and bending. In most cases, patients cannot identify the specific pain site, but only feel indescribable discomfort in the affected joint. When they move the joint, they will feel joint soreness, swelling and weakness;

2. Limited movement: Due to pain and swelling, the movement of the affected area will be limited to varying degrees. It can be improved through slow movement or warm treatment, especially in the morning. In severe cases, "morning stiffness" may occur. In severe cases of thumb tenosynovitis, joint snapping may occur, which is manifested as a "clicking" sound when the joint moves;

3. Local swelling: Due to the inflammatory reaction, local tissue fluid will seep out, causing swelling of the diseased area, and the tendon will have cord-like swelling;

4. Functional impairment: Tenosynovitis occurs in the wrist and fingers, which can lead to reduced flexibility of joint movements in the affected area.

2. Treatment:

1. General treatment: pay attention to rest, reduce the activity of the affected part, relax the affected part through proper massage to relieve pain. When the symptoms are severe, the affected part can be fixed with splints and plaster to restrict activity. Upper limb tenosynovitis can be protected by hanging with a triangular bandage;

2. Drug treatment: Those with severe pain can use over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen and naproxen, and oral or topical non-steroidal drugs for anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects;

3. Surgical treatment: When stenosing tenosynovitis is ineffective in non-surgical treatment, incision decompression should be performed. Some acute serous tenosynovitis or infectious tenosynovitis require incision drainage to drain pus and reduce local swelling to achieve the purpose of treatment.
