Can breast cysts heal on their own?

Breast cysts usually do not completely heal on their own, but their condition may stabilize or even improve in certain situations. Regular monitoring and lifestyle adjustments can help control symptoms, but if the cyst is painful, significantly enlarged, or at risk of becoming malignant, active treatment is required.

Breast cysts are a common benign breast lesion, mainly due to fluid accumulation caused by obstruction of the milk ducts or hormonal fluctuations. The causes of its formation include genetic factors, long-term fluctuations in estrogen levels, poor eating habits, mental stress, and the use of certain hormonal drugs. Hormonal changes in the body are particularly important. Excessive estrogen levels may stimulate the proliferation of breast tissue, thereby forming cysts. In some cases, breast cysts may shrink due to adjustments in hormone levels, but it is rare for them to disappear completely. A small number of patients may experience worsening symptoms, such as tenderness, breast pain, or the touch of an obvious lump. At this time, the cyst requires further examination to rule out malignant lesions. The treatment of cysts includes ultrasound examination to determine the size and nature, and to assess whether further treatment is needed.

For breast cysts that are symptomatic or affect your life, treatment can be considered. For mild cases, you can try to adjust your diet, reduce the intake of high-fat, high-sugar foods, and supplement foods rich in vitamin E and fiber, such as nuts, green leafy vegetables, and whole grains. Maintaining regular exercise and good sleep can help balance hormones. If the cyst causes pain or increases significantly, the cyst fluid can be removed through puncture and drainage under the guidance of a doctor to relieve discomfort. Drug treatment can choose to use drugs that adjust hormone levels, such as progesterone support agents. For cysts that recur or are suspected of malignancy, surgical removal may be required.

It is recommended to have regular breast examinations and combine breast ultrasound or mammography to understand the cyst situation. If the symptoms are obvious or the cyst grows rapidly in a short period of time, you need to see a doctor in time to make a clear diagnosis and take necessary treatment measures, while avoiding blind self-intervention. Developing healthy living habits and maintaining a good mental state may play a positive role in breast health.
