Which massage position is effective for sciatica

Generally speaking, massaging the Yaoyangguan, Huantiao, Weizhong, Sanjiaoshu and Yinmen points is effective for sciatica.

Sciatica is a syndrome characterized by pain in the sciatic nerve path and distribution area. Sciatica can be divided into primary sciatica and secondary sciatica. The main cause of sciatica is the compression of nerve roots and sensory ganglia, and is also related to the stimulation of local inflammatory factors.

1. Yaoyangguan Point:

Located in the waist of the human body, in the depression of the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebra, on the posterior midline. Yaoyangguan acupoint has the effect of removing cold and dampness and warming the meridians. Massage can improve the discomfort of lower limb spasm after stroke, primary dysmenorrhea, sciatica, etc.

2. Huantiao acupoint:

Located in the buttocks area, at the intersection of the outer 1/3 and inner 2/3 where the most convex point of the greater trochanter of the femur connects with the sacral canal hiatus. Huantiao acupoint has the effects of removing rheumatism, benefiting the waist and legs, and unblocking meridians. Massage can improve the discomfort caused by sciatica.

3. Weizhong Point:

It is located at the midpoint of the hamstring, between the biceps femoris tendon and the semitendinosus tendon, that is, the center of the knee. Weizhong acupoint has the effects of opening the orifices, soothing the meridians, clearing away heat, cooling blood and detoxifying. Massage can improve lower limb paralysis, abdominal pain, sciatica and other discomforts.

4. Sanjiaoshu Point:

Located in the spine area, 1.5 inches below the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra. Sanjiaoshu point has the function of regulating the triple energizer and promoting water flow. Massage can improve the discomfort of spleen, gastrointestinal diseases and sciatica.

5. Yinmen acupoint:

Located behind the stock, 6 inches below the gluteal groove, between the biceps femoris and the semitendinosus. Massaging the Yinmen acupoint can dredge the meridians, strengthen the waist and legs, and help with lower limb paralysis and sciatica.

It is recommended that patients with sciatica maintain a healthy lifestyle in their daily lives, maintain good sitting, standing and sleeping postures, and avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time.
