Reduction method for treating rib fractures

1. Reset method

The patient sits behind the patient, and the assistant puts his knees on the patient's back, holds the shoulders with both hands, and slowly opens them backwards to make the patient straighten his chest. The doctor supports the side with one hand and presses the patient's side with the other hand, using the squeezing technique to flatten the high convex part. If the patient is weak, he can lie on his back with his back raised, and the fracture can also be repaired by squeezing.

Multiple rib fractures cause chest wall floating. When breathing is abnormal, you can choose a rib in the center of chest wall floating. Local anesthesia, clamp the rib with a sterile towel clamp, tie a traction rope and slide the traction. The traction weight is 2 to 3 kg.

2. Fixation Method

1. Tape fixation method: The patient sits down, apply compound benzoic acid tincture on the skin where the tape is applied, exhale to minimize the chest, and then hold your breath. Use a 7-10 cm wide tape to bypass the fracture from the midline of the healthy scapula to the midline of the healthy clavicle. The second tape covers the upper edge of the first tape, overlapping by 1/2. Fix the fracture area and the upper and lower adjacent ribs from back to front and from bottom to top for 3 to 4 weeks.

If the skin is allergic to tape, or if you have bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or the elderly have limited cardiopulmonary reserve capacity, it is not advisable to use semi-ring tape fixation as it will aggravate respiratory restriction.

2. Nylon strap or elastic bandage fixation method: Suitable for the elderly, patients with lung diseases or skin allergies to tape. Apply plaster or stasis-eliminating cream to the fracture site, let the patient take a deep breath, and then use nylon strap or wide elastic bandage to fix the fracture area and the upper and lower adjacent ribs to the chest. The fixation time is about 4 weeks.

3. Indications for surgical treatment

Multiple rib fractures lead to floating chest wall, abnormal breathing, insufficient breathing, and ineffective coughing up sputum. Cutting wire or silicone rubber plate fixation can be selected.
