What causes heel spurs and how to treat them

Heel spurs are caused by aging, excessive friction, chronic strain, bone hyperplasia, osteoarthritis and other reasons, and can be improved through general treatment, physical therapy, medication and other methods.

1. Ageing: As we age, our bones will degenerate. If we often carry weight on our heels, it will stimulate the growth of local bones and induce heel spurs. We need to pay more attention to rest and reduce physical activity.

2. Excessive friction: This may be caused by shoes that are too tight. Wearing tight shoes for a long time will cause local friction on the heel, causing changes in the heel and leading to heel spurs. Usually, you should choose loose and breathable shoes and reduce the amount of exercise appropriately.

3. Chronic strain: The heel is a part of the human body that is subjected to greater stress. If you stand for a long time or over-move for a long time, it will cause strain on the heel and surrounding fascia, change the shape of the heel, and cause bone spurs on the heel. You can use a hot towel or hot water bottle to warm the affected area, which can promote blood circulation and relieve pain.

4. Bone hyperplasia: If the local force on the heel is abnormal, repeated stimulation will promote the formation of bone spurs, compress the nerves, tendons or other structures around the heel, leading to heel spurs, numbness and limited joint movement. Under the guidance of a doctor, topical drugs such as flurbiprofen gel, diclofenac diethylamine emulsion, and blood circulation and analgesic ointment are needed to relieve the symptoms.

5. Osteoarthritis: If you are often in a cold environment and your heels are not well kept warm, it is easy to cause local soreness and discomfort in the heels, inflammation of the heel joints, uneven joint surfaces, and increase the possibility of heel spurs. The condition can be improved by taking oral ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, acetaminophen tablets, methylcobalamin tablets, etc. according to the doctor's advice.

During the treatment, you should actively cooperate, keep a happy mood and avoid excessive tension.
