What are the treatments for foot fractures?

If a foot fracture occurs, the first thing to do is to use general treatment methods, mainly bed rest and a reasonable daily diet. Then there is drug treatment, including anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, calcium supplements, vitamin D, calcitonin, and adherence to rehabilitation exercise treatment.

1. General treatment of foot fractures

1. Bed rest

Once a plantar fracture occurs, the patient should first ensure bed rest and avoid activities of the plantar fracture, which will help the fracture heal. If bed rest is not timely, it may aggravate the symptoms and affect the later healing.

2. Reasonable diet

For patients with plantar fractures, it is also very important to have a reasonable daily diet. The diet should be light, and trace elements such as zinc, iron, and manganese should be properly supplemented. After most of the bruises are absorbed, the diet needs to be changed from light to high-nutrition supplements, so as to meet the needs of scab growth. You can drink some bone soup appropriately, and then drink more water for diuresis.

2. Drug treatment of foot fractures

1. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs

If the sole of the foot is fractured, it usually causes obvious pain symptoms. At this time, anti-inflammatory analgesics can be used appropriately to relieve the condition. Commonly used are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac sodium.

2. Calcium and Vitamin D

Fracture patients also need to take calcium and vitamin D orally, which helps wound healing. But after taking calcium, be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid urinary stones. Vitamin D supplementation must be appropriate, if excessive supplementation may cause hypercalcemia.

3. Calcitonin

Calcitonin is a peptide hormone suitable for patients with plantar fractures. This drug can inhibit the activity of osteoclasts and reduce the number of osteoclasts. In addition to relieving pain, it can also increase the activity of the foot and improve calcium balance.

3. Rehabilitation exercises and treatment of foot fractures

In the early stages of a plantar fracture, you should avoid activity, but after the pain disappears, you should start exercising as soon as possible and gradually increase the amount of activity to help recover from the fracture symptoms.
