Anal stool leakage after perianal abscess surgery

Anal stool leakage after perianal abscess surgery

Anal fecal leakage after perianal abscess surgery may be caused by incomplete healing of the surgical wound or impaired anal sphincter function. Treatment methods include wound care, drug therapy and rehabilitation training. In severe cases, surgery is required for repair.

1. Wound care. Postoperative anal leakage may be related to wound infection or poor healing. Keep the anal area clean and dry, and use warm water sitz baths 2-3 times a day for 10-15 minutes each time to help promote blood circulation and wound healing. Avoid using irritating soaps or detergents, and choose mild care products. Wear loose and breathable underwear to reduce friction and irritation.

2. Drug treatment. Antibiotics such as cephalosporins and penicillins can prevent or treat infection. Painkillers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen can relieve pain. Drugs that promote wound healing such as vitamin C and zinc preparations can help tissue repair. Chinese herbal fumigation and bathing such as honeysuckle and dandelion decoctions have anti-inflammatory and bactericidal effects.

3. Rehabilitation training. Kegel exercises can strengthen the anal sphincter. The specific method is to contract the anal muscles, hold for 5 seconds and then relax, repeat 10-15 times, 2-3 sets a day. Anal levator exercises are similar to Kegel exercises, but they need to be performed while standing. Biofeedback training monitors muscle activity through instruments to help patients better control the anal sphincter.

4. Diet adjustment. High-fiber foods such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits can soften stools and reduce irritation to the wound during defecation. Drink plenty of water to keep bowel movements smooth, and drink no less than 2000 ml of water per day. Avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers and alcohol to avoid aggravating anal discomfort.

5. Psychological adjustment. Postoperative anal fecal leakage may bring psychological pressure to patients. Communicate with family and friends to seek emotional support. Participate in patient exchange meetings to share experiences and encourage each other. If necessary, seek professional psychological counseling to relieve anxiety and depression.

Anal fecal leakage after perianal abscess surgery is a common postoperative complication. Through proper wound care, drug treatment and rehabilitation training, most patients can gradually recover. If the symptoms persist or worsen, you should seek medical attention in time to assess whether another surgical repair is needed. Paying attention to dietary conditioning and psychological adjustment in daily life will help speed up the recovery process. Adhering to rehabilitation training and strengthening the function of the anal sphincter can effectively prevent recurrence. Regular review, monitoring recovery, and timely detection and treatment of possible problems.
