What are bilateral cystic breast masses?

Bilateral cystic breast masses are usually cystic lesions that appear in the breast. Most of them are benign, but you should still be vigilant and check them regularly to rule out potential risks.

Breast cysts are fluid sacs that form in breast tissue. They are like a small bag filled with fluid and can occur in one or both breasts. Most breast cysts are related to breast hyperplasia or hormone level fluctuations, especially in premenstrual or menopausal women. This condition is usually closely related to hormone fluctuations in the body, such as estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin.

People with breast cystic masses may feel breast tenderness or feel regular, soft, and elastic masses. The size and number may vary from person to person. If the mass is large or the local pressure is obvious, there may be discomfort, but such cystic masses generally do not cause abnormal nipple secretion or other more serious symptoms. In clinical practice, in most cases, benign cysts will shrink or disappear with changes in the menstrual cycle.

If bilateral breast cysts are found, it is recommended to go to the hospital for further examination, such as breast ultrasound or mammography, to determine the nature of the mass. Once it is confirmed to be a benign lesion, the symptoms can be relieved by adjusting the work and rest schedule and reducing the intake of caffeine and high-fat diet; if the cyst is large and the pressure is obvious, the doctor may use fluid aspiration to relieve it. However, if the cyst grows rapidly or has other abnormal manifestations, it is necessary to pay great attention and follow the doctor's advice to take further treatment.
