Can perianal abscess be treated without surgery?

Can perianal abscess be treated without surgery?

Perianal abscess is a disease that needs to be actively treated. In most cases, it is difficult to completely cure without surgery. Especially when the abscess is large or complicated by infection, conservative treatment often cannot eliminate the underlying problem.

This is because perianal abscess is essentially a purulent disease caused by infection, often caused by bacteria invading the anal glands or other tissues. Pus accumulates in the tissues, and if it is not drained in time, it will lead to increased pressure, spread of infection, and may even develop into anal fistula or other complications.

In the early stages of a small abscess or when the symptoms are mild, doctors may try conservative treatments such as antibiotics or hot compresses, but such treatments cannot remove the pus, and the limited relief usually only relieves discomfort. Once the abscess is deep, large, or accompanied by severe pain, most of them require surgical incision and drainage to drain the pus in order to avoid recurrence and deterioration.

If you find swelling, pain, redness, swelling, and persistent discomfort around the anus, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible and let a professional doctor determine whether surgery is needed. Delaying or self-treatment may increase the risk and make subsequent treatment more complicated.
