Symptoms of osteoporosis in the sixties

Osteoporosis often manifests itself in people over the age of 60 as back pain, decreased height, and easy fractures, especially fractures of the hip, wrist, and spine. If you suspect you have osteoporosis, you should see a doctor as soon as possible for a bone density test.

Osteoporosis is mainly caused by decreased bone mass and degeneration of bone structure. Patients may experience persistent back pain, which is usually caused by minor compression fractures, especially in the thoracic and lumbar regions. Short stature and hunchback are also common manifestations, which are caused by deformities or collapsed fractures of the spinal bones. A slight fall or collision may cause a fracture. The hip and wrist bones are the most commonly affected parts. Sometimes spinal fractures may even occur without trauma. In severe cases, there may also be limited mobility, muscle weakness or the risk of repeated fractures.

To prevent and improve osteoporosis, it is necessary to increase the intake of calcium and vitamin D in the diet, such as drinking milk or eating dark green vegetables every day, and appropriately supplementing vitamin D to promote calcium absorption. Regular weight-bearing exercise and muscle strength training, such as walking or yoga, can enhance bone strength. Avoid smoking and excessive drinking to reduce the potential risk of bone loss. Once osteoporosis is diagnosed, bisphosphonates (such as alendronate), selective estrogen receptor modulators (such as raloxifene) or injected bone formation stimulators (such as parathyroid hormone analogs) can be taken for treatment under the doctor's advice. For any suspicious symptoms, you should go to the hospital for evaluation in time to avoid more serious complications.
