What are the causes of complications after nasal hemangioma surgery?

Some sequelae may occur after nasal hemangioma surgery, but they do not necessarily occur in everyone. The specific reasons depend on the situation.

Nasal hemangioma is a benign tumor, and surgery is usually performed to remove the tumor and relieve risks such as compression or bleeding. Sequelae may be related to surgical trauma, personal constitution, and postoperative recovery management, such as bleeding, dry nasal cavity, decreased sense of smell, or slight deformation of the nose.

Postoperative bleeding usually comes from incomplete healing of blood vessels in the nasal cavity; while nasal dryness and crusting may be due to the surgery affecting the normal secretion function of the nasal mucosa. Decreased sense of smell may be related to interference with the olfactory nerve area during surgery, but in most cases it is temporary. If the operation involves more tissue, it may affect the appearance of the nose, but this is rare.

To promote postoperative recovery, the nasal cavity needs to be kept moist, such as using saline spray, and avoid picking the nose, blowing the nose hard, etc. If there is persistent heavy bleeding, severe pain, or long-term failure to recover the sense of smell, you should seek medical attention in time and let the doctor assess whether further intervention is needed.
