How to treat anal abscess

How to treat anal abscess

Anal abscesses need to be treated as soon as possible to prevent further infection. The main treatment methods include local care, drug therapy and surgical drainage.

Local care: At home, you can use warm water to sit in a bath, which can promote local blood circulation and help the abscess to absorb and subside. This can be done 2-3 times a day, each time for about 15-20 minutes. At the same time, keep the affected area clean and dry, and avoid rubbing or pressing the abscess to prevent the spread of infection. Choosing loose, breathable cotton underwear can also help reduce friction and moisture accumulation.

Drug treatment: For anal abscesses with mild symptoms, antibiotic ointment or oral antibiotics can be used to help control the infection. If you need to use antibiotic ointment locally, you can choose erythromycin ointment, mupirocin ointment, etc. These drugs can be applied directly to the affected area to promote healing. Oral antibiotics can choose penicillins such as amoxicillin, or cephalosporins such as cephalexin. Before using antibiotics, it is recommended to consult a doctor to avoid drug resistance problems.

Surgical drainage: For larger or recurrent anal abscesses, especially when perianal abscesses have formed, surgical drainage is usually required. The surgery drains the pus through a small incision, relieves symptoms, and prevents the infection from spreading to surrounding tissues. After the surgery, a drainage tube or gauze needs to be placed at the incision to keep the wound draining and healing. Regular cleaning and dressing changes should be performed after the surgery, and regular checkups should be performed as directed by the doctor.

When facing the problem of anal abscesses, the most important step is to consult a doctor in time. For patients with repeated attacks or ineffective treatment, the doctor may recommend further examination to rule out other possible diseases, such as anal fistula. In life, maintaining good personal hygiene habits and a balanced diet, avoiding spicy and irritating foods, consuming more fiber, and keeping bowel movements smooth are also very important for preventing the recurrence of anal abscesses. Regular exercise, strengthening physical fitness, and improving overall immunity can help prevent the occurrence of infection. When encountering these problems, a calm mind, active treatment, and following the doctor's advice can better restore health.
