What is the cause of anal fissure in newborns and how to treat it?

Anal fissures in newborns are usually related to constipation or dry and hard stools. It is recommended to adjust the care method in time. If the symptoms persist or become severe, please seek medical attention as soon as possible.

The skin of the baby's anus is fragile. If the stool is too dry and hard at one time or the baby exerts too much force during defecation, it may cause the skin near the anus to tear. Frequent diarrhea, the use of irritating substances (such as the chemical components in wet wipes) and improper cleaning may also induce the appearance of anal fissures.

If a newborn is found to have anal fissures, you can first try to help soften the stool by adjusting the diet, increasing the frequency of breastfeeding, or giving the child appropriate amounts of water under the guidance of a doctor. When cleaning the anus after defecation, use warm water to gently clean it and avoid using irritating chemicals. Milder anal fissures generally heal on their own within a few days, but if the child shows persistent pain, is unwilling to defecate, or has obvious bleeding from the anus, professional treatment may be required.

In daily care, pay more attention to the newborn's bowel movement pattern and observe the stool characteristics in time. If signs of constipation are found, the mother's diet structure can be adjusted appropriately to increase the intake of high-fiber foods. It is also important to keep the buttocks clean and dry. If there are any abnormal manifestations, consult a pediatrician as soon as possible to ensure the child's health.
