Why do my fingers swell and hurt?

Why do my fingers swell and hurt?

There may be many reasons for swollen and painful fingers. There is no need to worry too much about mild cases, but if the pain continues to worsen or is accompanied by other symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Swollen and painful fingers may be caused by trauma, arthritis, infection or some underlying diseases. For example, soft tissue contusion caused by accidental bumps will usually cause local redness and swelling; if it is gout or rheumatoid arthritis, it is often accompanied by joint stiffness and limited function; and infection may cause local fever or even abscesses. Different problems will have different degrees of impact on finger tissues.

If the swelling and pain are caused by a minor bump, you can use cold compresses to relieve the redness and swelling in the early stage, and then use hot compresses after 24 hours to help reduce the swelling; if you suspect a sports injury, you can try to repair it by avoiding exertion, elevating the affected area, etc. At the same time, a balanced diet and reducing the intake of high-purine foods can help prevent gout attacks. If there is an infection, pay attention to the cleanliness of the wound and observe whether the redness and swelling spread or the infection worsens.

When pain affects daily finger activities, or is accompanied by persistent fever, obvious deformity, loss of function, etc., be sure to seek medical attention in a timely manner to ensure a clear treatment plan. Try to protect your hands and avoid long-term repetitive movements to reduce the occurrence of related problems.
