best medicine for gallstones

There is no single "best medicine" that can completely cure gallstones. The specific medication should be determined according to the type and size of the stones and the patient's condition. Medication is usually suitable for patients with cholesterol stones and no obvious symptoms. It can effectively improve some conditions, but it cannot fundamentally remove the stones.

The most commonly used drug treatment is oral litholytic drugs, such as ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, etc. These drugs gradually dissolve cholesterol stones by reducing the cholesterol content in bile. They are suitable for patients with small stones (less than 15 mm in diameter) and no calcification. Another common drug is antibiotics, which are used to control infections associated with acute cholecystitis; for symptom control, antispasmodics such as scopolamine butylbromide may also be needed to relieve biliary colic. Drug treatment requires strict adherence to doctor's orders, and the course of treatment is usually long. Large and stubborn stones are often difficult to resolve with drugs.

Prevention and daily management are equally important. Pay attention to a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet to reduce the possibility of stone formation. For example, you should consume more high-fiber foods such as oats and vegetables; drinking olive oil in moderation can also help bile excretion. Moderate aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking or yoga, can help improve gallbladder function. If drug treatment is ineffective or recurrent, other methods should be selected, such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy or extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, to completely solve the cause and reduce the risk of recurrence.
