How to detect rheumatoid arthritis in the hands

Detection of rheumatoid arthritis in the hands is primarily done through blood tests, imaging tests, and analysis of joint fluid. Treatments include medication, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

Blood tests can detect rheumatoid factor and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies, which can help diagnose rheumatoid arthritis. Imaging tests such as X-rays, ultrasound, and MRI can show the degree of inflammation and damage in the joints. Joint fluid analysis further confirms the diagnosis by drawing joint fluid and testing for inflammatory cells and crystals.

Drug treatment is the main means. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen can relieve pain and inflammation. Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs such as methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine can slow the progression of the disease. Biological agents such as tumor necrosis factor inhibitors treat specific inflammatory factors.

Physical therapy, including heat, cold, and electrotherapy, can relieve symptoms and improve joint function. Heat increases blood circulation, cold reduces swelling and pain, and electrotherapy stimulates muscles and nerves through electrical currents, increasing joint mobility.

Lifestyle adjustments can help control the disease, such as maintaining a proper weight to reduce joint burden, and performing low-intensity exercises such as swimming and yoga to enhance joint flexibility and muscle strength. Avoiding long-term repetitive hand movements can reduce the risk of joint injuries.

The detection and treatment of hand rheumatoid arthritis requires a combination of methods. Timely medical treatment and persistent treatment are the key. Through scientific detection and effective treatment, the progression of the disease can be controlled and the quality of life can be improved.
