Can a breast nodule be a cyst?

Can a breast nodule be a cyst?

Breast nodules may be cysts, but the specific situation needs to be judged based on the type and nature. Breast nodules are a common phenomenon, some of which are indeed benign cysts, while others may be solid nodules or other types of lesions.

Breast cysts are a type of breast nodule, usually formed by the accumulation of fluid secreted by the breast glands in the glandular ducts. Its typical feature is that it contains fluid, which is common in women of childbearing age. It may appear or change due to hormone fluctuations, especially during the menstrual cycle. Solid nodules are different. They are mainly composed of tissue components, and further examination may be required to clarify their nature.

Cystic breast nodules are usually soft to the touch, have clear borders, and may become painful or increase in size with the menstrual cycle, while solid nodules may be hard, inflexible, and often do not change cyclically. Sometimes, breast nodules combine multiple types, and it is difficult to distinguish the specific nature by touch alone, so ultrasound examination is needed to confirm. If the fluid in the cyst is clear and there are no other abnormalities, it is usually benign. However, if abnormal fluid is present, the cyst increases in size rapidly, and is accompanied by pain or other symptoms, further examination is required.

It is recommended to develop good health habits, maintain a regular schedule and healthy diet, avoid excessive intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods; perform regular breast self-examinations to detect changes in a timely manner; and follow the doctor's reexamination recommendations after receiving a breast ultrasound examination. Women can appropriately relieve breast discomfort before and after their menstrual period or when they are emotionally unstable. If the nodules have obvious changes, unexplained pain or other symptoms, you should see a doctor as soon as possible and seek professional diagnosis and treatment advice.
