Perianal abscess and inflammatory external hemorrhoids

Perianal abscess and inflammatory external hemorrhoids

Perianal abscess and inflammatory external hemorrhoids are two common perianal diseases. The former usually requires medical treatment as soon as possible, while the latter can be relieved through daily care. Understanding the difference between the two and how to treat them will help you better manage your health.

Perianal abscess is a collection of pus caused by infection of perianal tissues. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, pain and even fever. In severe cases, rupture and pus discharge may occur. Inflammatory external hemorrhoids are painful lumps caused by dilation of blood vessels or thrombosis in the perianal area. They are mostly caused by prolonged sitting, excessive force during bowel movements or perianal inflammation.

Perianal abscesses are very painful, and the lumps are often warm and soft to the touch; inflammatory external hemorrhoids are mostly hard lumps that can be touched, and the pain is usually aggravated by defecation or pressure. If perianal abscesses are not drained in time, they may develop into anal fistulas; and if inflammatory external hemorrhoids do not adjust their lifestyle, they may recur or the inflammation may worsen. For perianal diseases, daily observation and accurate judgment are very important. If there are obvious symptoms of suppuration or systemic infection, you should go to the hospital immediately.

In daily life, developing good habits is the key to preventing and alleviating such diseases. For example, keep the anal area clean and dry, avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time; focus on high-fiber diet, drink plenty of water to promote smooth bowel movements; avoid excessive force during bowel movements. Patients with inflammatory external hemorrhoids can also relieve discomfort through warm water sitz baths and local cold compresses.
