Is radical surgery necessary for perianal abscess?

Is radical surgery necessary for perianal abscess?

Radical surgery is not necessary for perianal abscesses in all cases, but severe cases generally require surgical treatment to avoid the spread of infection or the formation of complex fistulas.

Perianal abscess is a condition in which an abscess forms in the tissues around the anus due to infection. The cause is usually related to anal gland obstruction, bacterial infection, trauma, and chronic intestinal diseases. Patients with mild abscesses may use antibiotics to control the infection under the guidance of a doctor, and cooperate with auxiliary therapies such as hot compresses to relieve symptoms. However, for more serious cases, radical surgery is one of the core methods of treatment, especially when the abscess recurs or a fistula has formed. Common surgical methods include abscess incision and drainage, radical fistulectomy, and complex fistula repair. The goal of these operations is to completely remove the source of infection and repair damaged tissue. After surgery, you need to pay attention to wound care, keep it clean and dry, and avoid sitting for a long time or activities that irritate the wound to promote healing.

In order to prevent the recurrence of perianal abscess, bowel movements should be kept smooth in daily life to avoid constipation and long-term diarrhea. Eat more fiber-rich foods, such as vegetables, whole grains, fruits, etc., and maintain adequate water intake. Pay attention to perianal hygiene, especially when the temperature is high or sweating a lot. It is recommended to wash and change breathable underwear frequently. If you find pain, swelling or persistent discomfort in the perianal area, you should see a doctor as soon as possible and have a professional doctor evaluate and develop a treatment plan. For people with a history of inflammatory bowel disease, regular follow-up should be carried out to prevent potential complications.
